Conway, SC – The fledgling Atlantic Collegiate Academy girls golf team posted its first match play victory on Thursday, downing Trinity Collegiate Academy at Wild Wing Golf Club.
The Armada posted a score of 186 over the 9-hole match, besting Trinity Collegiate by 21 total shots.
"I am beyond proud of our girls," ACA golf coach
Bailey Paske said. "Being the first golf match in school history, I think we all were a little nervous and were hoping for the best outcome. We have had lots of ups and down so far, but our girls have never gotten down about anything, and this was a huge win for us.
"Being the first golf team to win a match in school history is an awesome feeling and I hope we keep it up with this momentum."
Senior
Hannah Lowery led the way for the Armada, posting a three-over par score of 39 to lead all players in the match. Lowery was joined in the match by
Clara Beth Brady,
Bella Stroupe and
Avery Zygo.
For Lowery and Brady, it will be a quick turnaround from Thursday's match to Saturday's invitation only event at the True Blue Club on Pawleys Island. They will be competing in the Style Driver Girls Palmetto Tournament of Champions as individuals.
"I am excited for Hannah and Clara Beth to play as individuals in a pretty competitive field this weekend," Paske said. "It will be a good test for them."
The team's next action is scheduled for September 24 when they will face off against Trinity Collegiate again, this time in Florence.
"The team is going to have fun celebrating a big win today, but we will be focused and ready to go to Florence for our rematch with Trinity Collegiate in a couple of weeks," Paske said.
