From The Armada Quarterdeck, Vol. 8

Conway, SC - This week showcased the true heart, competitive drive, and culture of Atlantic Collegiate Academy Athletics.

A special congratulations to our Athlete of the Month, Mariah Mason! Mariah was a total stat sheet filler who made a game-changing impact all over the court for our volleyball program, while bringing a positive, enthusiastic attitude off the court that continually elevates and supports her teammates.

From program-building milestones to landmark facility upgrades, our student-athletes and coaches continue to raise the Armada standard. Highlights from this week include honoring Ava Holland in a powerful jersey retirement match, Girls Golf testing their game against elite talent in North Carolina, Basketball solidifying core concepts to close out Open Season, Volleyball sweeping Aynor to stay hot heading toward postseason play, and Football pulling off a dramatic 14-point comeback victory on the road.

    • Mariah made an impact all over the court as a true stat sheet filler, matched by her positive, enthusiastic attitude off the court that inspires her teammates every day.
  • Sports Performance & Recovery: Our new ice machine has arrived, with installation beginning by the end of the week. Dedicated cold-plunge recovery tubs will accompany the unit to accelerate athletic recovery and prevent injuries, an essential facility addition for prioritizing student-athlete health, recovery, and safety.
  • Armada Fueling Station: Student-athletes can grab protein shakes and Gatorade bars at cost in the weight room from Coach Santuan. Keeping our Armada athletes properly fueled is vital for peak performance on and off the court, fields and courses.

Program Updates & Game Recaps

Basketball Open Season Concluded: Basketball has officially wrapped up its Open season. The past month provided a great opportunity for our coaching staff to install core offensive and defensive concepts, set high expectations, and firmly define team culture heading into the season.

Volleyball Ava Holland Remembrance Match: An emotional and deeply powerful night as the ACA community came together to honor Ava Holland and officially retire her #18 jersey. The gym was transformed into a vibrant sea of purple in memory of our beloved former teammate. Adding to the competitive storyline on the floor, Head Coach Church went head-to-head on the sideline against his former assistant coach. Backed by a student section that delivered unmatched energy, enthusiasm, and heart all night, the evening was a true testament to the strength, resilience, and unity of the Armada family.

Volleyball Dominating Performance: The Armada secured a dominant victory in straight sets! The girls are playing at an exceptionally high level and hitting their stride at the perfect time as they enter the final week of the regular season. With their eyes locked on the SCHSL 3A state playoffs, Coach Church and his staff have the team heading in the right direction, positioning the Armada for a deep playoff run.

Girls Golf 4th HV3 Girls' High School Invitational: The Armada Girls Golf team traveled to the Charlotte, North Carolina area to compete at the beautiful Gaston Country Club against a field of elite North Carolina programs. Facing top-tier regional competition on a championship-caliber course provided a fantastic benchmark for our squad, offering an ideal test to see where we stack up as the girls prepare for their upcoming SCHSL 3A Regional and State Playoff runs.

Football Historic Win: Big Road Victory! Down 14 early, the Armada staged an impressive rally to secure a convincing comeback win. Coach Rivens and his coaching staff made elite halftime adjustments, allowing the team to completely take control of the game and pull away for a dominant second-half performance. Securing a victory in our first away matchup against Horry County competition sets a tremendous standard for the program moving forward.
