CONWAY, S.C. — The Atlantic Collegiate Academy Armada girls varsity volleyball team put on a clinical performance on Thursday night, sweeping past the visiting Lakewood Gators in straight sets (25-15, 25-8, 25-14) in front of an energetic home crowd. With the victory, the Armada improve to 7-4 overall on the season and maintain an unblemished 3-0 record in region play.
Atlantic Collegiate dictated the terms of the match right from the opening whistle, combining sharp efficiency at the net with high-voltage service pressure. Outside hitter Sierra Roberts (#23) anchored the front row, putting down a team-high 11 kills on 17 total attacks for an outstanding .529 hitting percentage. Junior Mariah Mason (#3) provided additional pop with 5 kills on a .375 clip, helping the Armada compile 27 total kills as a unit. Behind the line, ACA proved nearly untouchable, firing 19 serving aces across the three sets to repeatedly force Lakewood out of system. Sophia Lynch (#8) set the pace from the server's box with 8 aces, while Jasmine Dixon (#14) chipped in 5 aces alongside her 3 kills.
Defensively and in distribution, the Armada displayed total control to prevent any late-set rallies by the Gators. Backline specialists Zoey Rushman (#1) and Bella Goebel (#11) led the ground defense with 6 digs apiece to finish off transition opportunities. Meanwhile, setters Sophia Pimentel (#9) and Avery Speckman (#5) split distribution duties evenly, dishing out 7 assists each to direct a balanced offensive effort.
The Armada will return to action on Tuesday, September 15, when they hit the road for another high-stakes matchup against region foe Crestwood High School in Sumter. Match play is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
