ACA Offering Students Support During Difficult Time

Conway, SC – Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Atlantic Collegiate Academy sophomore Ava Holland was seriously injured in an automobile accident while on her way to school.

Ava is a much loved and well thought-of student at ACA and our entire school has joined together in prayer for her healing and recovery. After originally being treated at a local medical facility, Ava was transported to Charleston to the Medical University of South Carolina where she is being treated by some of the finest pediatric physicians in the country with around the clock care.

Ava is a native of Myrtle Beach and plays for Coast United volleyball.

Many members of the ACA family, including many her school mates and teammates from the ACA Volleyball program, have made the trip to Charleston to visit with Ava and her parents, Angela and David, along with her siblings, Ryan and Aiden, in a show of support.

"Please keep Ava and her family, her ACA volleyball family and the entire ACA school family and community in your prayers as we rally to support Ava and her family during this incredibly difficult time," ACA interim principal Dr. Cheryl McKinley said. "Times like these remind us of the importance of compassion, unity and care for one another. Thank you for lifting this school community up in whatever way you are able."

The ACA family has received an outpouring of support from the community during this difficult time.

On Thursday, support came to ACA from members of Beach Church, Body of Christ and L3 Love Leaves Legacy. In addition, Dr. Lori Malkasian and CTR Counseling was on campus from Engaging Minds to offer counseling. Others from Kingdom Authority Ministries SC and Chesterfield Missionary Baptist Church were also on call.

Today we have had visits from Chaplain Corps on campus with Just Us Ministry of North Palm Myrtle Beach and New Spring Church.

During the upcoming weekend, our students will have continuous access to support from myself, Athletic Director William Payne, Volleyball Coach Larry Church and Assistant Principal Bailey Paske. We will all be on call for anyone who needs to talk or needs a shoulder to lean on.

On Monday we will have a visit from Dr. Angel Malone, Superintendent of Limestone Charter Association, as well as visits from counselors from Coastal High School, Legion Collegiate Academy and New Spring.

On Tuesday CTR Counseling and the BOC Body of Christ will be on campus during the day. Breaking Chains Ministry, L3 Love Leaves Legacy, Kingdom Authority Ministries SC and Engaging Minds will be available at our basketball games.

New Spring and Coastal High School will continue to provide support on Wednesday with representative from L3 Love Leaves Legacy returning on Thursday of next week. Next Friday will be a personalized learning day with no classes on campus, but students will be able to reach out to their teachers and campus staff for support over the three-day weekend.

Representatives from Grand Strand Church of Christ will be available on campus on Wednesday, February 18.
