Conway, SC – The Atlantic Collegiate Academy girls' volleyball team made quick work of visiting Barnwell High on Tuesday night in the Armada's second round SCHSL playoff game.
The Armada (24-10-5) cruised to a straight sets victory over the Warhorses, winning 25-9, 25-5 and 25-4. Barnwell finished the season with a record of 11-6.
Senior outside hitter
Ella Handley led the way for the Armada, recording 12 service aces, seven kills and 13 digs. Fellow senior outside hitter
Reese Feldman added 13 kills and two digs in the match.
The Armada also got strong performances from junior libero
Addison Autry with nine service aces and four digs to go along with a kill. Junior right-side hitter
Kathryn Delea chipped in with three kills and six digs.
Others who contributed to the victory were sophomore
Elle Lorenz with a kill, sophomore
Lane Skinner with a block and a dig, junior defensive specialists
Presslee Hucks (dig) and
Allison Martin (three aces and two digs) and junior
Savina Pimentel with three aces and three kills.
The Armada will have to have all weapons ready to fire on Thursday evening when the Iron Horses of Philip Simmons visit "The Flight Deck" for a Class AA quarterfinal match. Philip Simmons advanced with a 3-0 victory over Lake City on Tuesday to improve to 40-7-2 on the year. The Iron Horses fell to Camden in the state semifinals of Class AAA last year.
Game time at ACA tomorrow night is set for 6 p.m.
