Armada Mission Update – 9-11-2025

Conway, SC – Good afternoon, everyone. I hope everyone had a great weekend and is enjoying a positive week. We had a lot of great things happen last week at ACA!

Today is a day of reflection across our country. Every year on this date I ask myself: How do I stay true? I choose to stop and teach the difference between fear and wisdom. The virtues 9-11 revealed to us were service, unity and resilience. May our remembrances be more than memory; may it be action. Let us be aware of those who serve discreetly, who resist cynicism and, through their work, create the type of community where people are safer. Although we cannot alter the past, we can create a future filled with courage, compassion and a hopeful outlook.

Clubs are meeting this week, and many more club meetings are scheduled for next week.

Picture day is on the horizon, cap and gown orders and class ring orders are also on the horizon. We are working with Jostens for picture day, and they will be taking senior pictures as well. For senior pictures, boys will wear a black suit coat and tie, and girls will be provided with a black cover up.

We have both food trucks and dessert trucks scheduled for this week. We had Chick-fil-A at the student center on Tuesday and look forward to having them back on a regular basis. If you are in the afternoon session, make sure to get here early so you can eat your meal before heading into class.

Students, make sure you are doing all your work for online classes. Mr. Ryan David is stationed in the Student Center to meet with students about Edmentum.

Dual Enrollment books have arrived. Please see Mrs. Tanja Warren in her classroom to get your college codes and books.

As a reminder, academic integrity is of the utmost importance to everyone here at ACA. Cheating of any kind will be dealt with swiftly. Our Code of Academic Integrity is below as a refresher.

CODE OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
ACA students, united in a spirit of mutual trust and fellowship, mindful of the values of a true education and the challenges posed by the world, agree to accept the responsibilities for honorable behavior in all academic activities, to assist one another in maintaining and promoting personal integrity, and to follow the principles and procedures in this Code of Academic Integrity.

Violations of the Code of Academic Integrity may take several forms: plagiarism and cheating are two examples of violations of the Code of Academic Integrity. Plagiarism is typically described as duplication of another's work without full acknowledgment of the debt to the original source, however, it also includes any of the following:
  • Direct duplication by copying (or allowing to be copied) another's work (in full or in part), whether from a book, article, web site, another student's assignment, etc. Duplication in any manner of another's homework or work during an exam.
  • Sharing one's work (under any capacity) which is then used by another (with or without consent). Students should not share their work or allow others to copy their work.
  • Paraphrasing of another's work closely, with minor changes but with the essential meaning, form and/or progression of ideas maintained. Students should not submit work that reflects the ideas of another person, regardless of whether students use the other person's exact words.
  • Piecing together sections of the work of others into a new whole.
  • Submitting one's own work which has already been submitted for assessment purposes in another subject; and/or, producing assignments in conjunction with other people (e.g. another student, tutor, parent/guardian, etc.), which should be your own independent work.
  • Submitting another student's work as your own.
  • Violation occurred through Turnitin software.
Cheating results in a loss of integrity on the part of the individual committing the act and on the educational process that is undermined by the act of cheating. It is a violation of the Code of Academic Integrity for any student to attempt to gain an unfair advantage over another student by unfair or dishonest means. If you are unclear about an assignment, the methodology, or the permissible bounds of assistance for completing your work please speak to your teacher(s) and ask for clarification.

Consequences for not following the academic code of conduct may include receiving a zero on the assignment, failing the course, disciplinary action including the possibility of suspension and/or expulsion from school.

We thank all of you who have donated and helped make our teachers feel very appreciated! If you would like to support our teachers, please donate to Team Teacher.

School tours are Fridays at 1 p.m. Please invite anyone who might be interested in attending or just what to learn more about ACA.

There was some bad information regarding volunteers for the Special Olympics in last week's update. Here is the updated info.

ACA students and parents have partnered with the Special Olympics State games, which begin tomorrow and will run through the day on Saturday. This is a great way to get your volunteer hours. We need to get a handle on the number of volunteers available.

Tomorrow, there is a need for 20 workers from 2:30-5:30 p.m. to help distribute t-shirts at the convention center. A minimum of 20 volunteers will be needed at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow to assist with opening ceremonies, also at the convention center.

For Saturday, there is a big need for as many as possible at Doug Shaw Stadium at 8 a.m. to assist with soccer, flag football and other activities. Bowling will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Myrtle Beach Bowling and they will need as many as 50 volunteers. Shift at bowling at 8 a.m. until noon and noon to 4 p.m.

Volunteers are also needed for golf and disc golf. Several ACA golfers have been part of the Unified team and will be competing, but more volunteers are needed to assist at Burning Ridge Golf Course and the disc golf center at Splinter City.

Volleyball will be played at the Convention center.

Anyone with questions can reach out to ACA board member Pat Marlow at pmarlow@acaarmada.org or at 843-457-4674.

August 2025 Athletes of the Month
AD William Payne and Assistant Principal Bailey Paske pose with August Athletes of the Month Bella Stroupe and Sofia Miroff.
For the first time in ACA history, there were Co-Athletes of the Month for August. Freshman tennis standout Sofia Miroff and sophomore golfer Bella Stroupe shared the honor for August. Sofia went 4-1 in August with her only loss coming to a top-ranked SCISA player. Bella finished seventh in a pair of August tournaments. Congratulations to these two for their outstanding performance.

Here is this week's Armada Athletics Newsletter.
