ACA Girls’ Hoops Drops Pair at She Got Next Tournament

Lexington, SC – The Atlantic Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team opened the 2024-25 season over the Thanksgiving break in the A1 Hoops She Got Next Tournament with games against Lower Richland High and Northwood Academy.

The Armada struggled for first-year coach Bill Zatulskis in the opening game, falling behind Class AAAA Lower Richland 24-6 in the opening quarter of play on Friday. ACA battled to a near draw in the second quarter but trailed the Hornets 41-21 at halftime. Lower Richland padded its lead in the second half to win the game 65-33.

"The team played hard from the opening tip to the last horn, regardless of the score," Zatulskis said of his squad. "We faced a very strong and experienced team and our inexperience showed. We learned a lot about ourselves and what we can improve on."

Junior Micah Davis led the Armada with 10 points and six rebounds in the game while sophomore Zaniya Blackmon added seven points and four assists.

The Armada played better against Northwood Academy on Saturday, but fell behind 17-4 lead in the opening quarter and spent the rest of the game trying to battle from behind before falling 57-41.

Davis again led the way, scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds while also recording four steals. Senior Abby Fusco chipped in with nine points while freshman Ashyra Willis added seven points and three rebounds.

The Armada will make its home debut tomorrow night when they host Wilmington Christian Academy at "The Flight Deck" with a scheduled 6 p.m. start.
