ACA Girls Rally Past Kingstree With Fourth Quarter Surge

Conway, SC – Down by 11 points entering the fourth quarter of Friday's Region 6-AA game against Kingstree High, the Atlantic Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team stormed back to take a 53-46 victory.

The Armada improved to 5-9 overall on the year but, more importantly, 3-2 in region play. Kingstree fell to 15-4 on the season, 3-3 in region competition.

"This was a great team performance," ACA coach Bill Zatulskis said. "We played great pressure defense and moved the ball very well to get good looks. Our defense led to some quick points."

Kingstree held a 9-6 lead after a slow-paced opening period, but the Demons built their lead to 24-13 by halftime. The pace picked up in the second half, but ACA was unable to close the gap and trailed 40-29 entering the final quarter.

ACA came to life in the final quarter, outscoring Kingstree 24-6 to storm from behind for the victory.

Junior guard Micah Davis led ACA with 21 points on 10 made field goals. Davis also had 11 rebounds and seven steals in the game. Sophomore guard Cayleigh Johnson chipped in with 15 points and had eight steals while sophomore guard Zaniya Blackmon added 10 points.

Junior Demia Mosley led the Demons with 22 points in the game while sophomore Naydia Shaw had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Armada is scheduled to have a busy week with a home region game against Mullins High on Tuesday night before travelling to face Wilmington Christian Academy on Friday. The ACA girls are also slated to play in the Wilson Tournament over the weekend. All games are tentative depending on expected winter weather in South Carolina this week.
