Conway, SC – The Atlantic Collegiate Academy volleyball team remained unbeaten in region play with a 3-0 victory over Manning High on Thursday night at "The Flight Deck".
The Armada now stands at 19-8-3 overall on the season with a perfect 9-0 record in Region 7-AA. The ACA junior varsity also defeated the Monarchs, winning 2-0, posting the squad's ninth victory in a row.
The varsity squad had very few problems in the match, winning 25-7, 25-4 and 25-6. The JV squad was equally impressive, winning 25-5 and 25-9.
Senior outside hitter
Ella Handley led the Armada with seven service aces and three kills. Junior setter
Kylie Jones had four kills and a pair of digs, junior right side hitter
Katie McMullin had five aces and a kill while senior
Reese Feldman had six digs and junior Preslee Hucks had three.
Freshmen
Simone Frederick and
Sophia Pimentel led the JV squad with four kills each while
McKenzie Womack had two kills and a pair of aces.
The ACA varsity squad will be back in action on Saturday in Columbia at the Cardinal Newman Tournament. The Armada will open play against the host Cardinals at 9:20 a.m. before playing Dreher High (10:10 a.m.), Batesburg-Leesville High (11:40 a.m.) and Carolina Forest High (1:20 p.m.) in pool play. Bracket play will begin at 3 p.m. with the teams that finish second and third in pool play facing off for a chance to meet the top pool play team for the championship. The fourth and fifth place teams will also play at 3 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Armada junior varsity has two matches remaining in their season. They will play a home match on Tuesday against East Clarendon at 5:30 p.m. (with the varsity to follow at 7 p.m.) and then close out the season on the road at Kingstree on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. (again, with the varsity to follow).
