From The Armada Quarterdeck, Vol. 4

Conway, SC – Conway, SC – Welcome back to The Armada Quarterdeck!

As we roll into September, the energy surrounding ACA Athletics has reached new heights. Between historic program firsts, massive rivalry wins, and our teams establishing the foundations of their cultures, it is an exciting time to be part of the Armada family. We continue to build tremendous momentum across the board, on the fields, on the courts, and in our community.

Department Headlines & Program Leadership

  • Historic First Award: A massive piece of ACA history was made this week! Congratulations to Terrance Blackmon, who has been named our first ACA "Student-Athlete of the Month" for August. A special shout-out to Coach Mikey for spearheading this fantastic recognition initiative to celebrate our student-athletes' hard work.
  • Baseball "Meet and Greet": We had a fantastic, large turnout for our new Head Baseball Coach, Chad Schildt's introductory "Meet and Greet." It was a great evening laying the foundational expectations and building excitement for the new program.
  • Basketball Open Season: Both Boys' and Girls' Basketball have officially started their open season. It was great to get out to practice and observe our coaches and players putting in the early work and laying the foundation for a highly successful season on the hardwood.
  • Football Stadiums & Home Schedule: Our football home schedule is officially set! We will host two contests at Ashley Booth and a massive marquee matchup at Doug Shaw Stadium, one of the best football venues in the Myrtle Beach area. We are incredibly grateful to be developing such a strong relationship with Myrtle Beach Sports and Tourism, and we look forward to providing our programs with continued access to the premier facilities in the region.

Game Recaps & Competition Highlights

  • Football Upsets No. 4 Carvers Bay: Friday night brought a massive victory as our football team went on the road and defeated the No. 4 ranked Carvers Bay, 25-19! The team showed true grit in the second half. Huge credit goes to Coach Rivens and his staff for making the pivotal halftime adjustments that secured the win.
  • Girls Volleyball Continues to Roll: Our volleyball squad delivered a dominating straight-sets victory against Loris in a fantastic local rivalry matchup – exactly the kind of community rivalry we look forward to building across all our sports. They followed that up with another road win in straight sets at Darlington HS. The team also traveled to Charleston this past weekend, testing themselves against great competition with the overall No. 1 ranked team in South Carolina looming as a potential matchup.
  • Girls Golf at Charleston Classic: In their very first match of the season, our girls golf team competed against a strong field at the Charleston Classic Invitational and finished an impressive 4th! The team showed great promise, and they are hoping to build on this early momentum as the season progresses.

Student Life, Spirit & Media Operations

  • First SAAC Meeting: The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its inaugural meeting this week, led by Coach Stanley and Coach Walker alongside representatives from all sports. This council is a tremendous step forward, giving our student-athletes a direct line of communication to the Athletic Department and a powerful voice in shaping our programs.
  • Cheerleading Brings the Energy: Coach Bailey and our Cheerleading squad attended Friday night's football game and brought unbelievable spirit and enthusiasm. Multiple times throughout the night, the cheer team led the crowd in a noticeable surge in volume, creating an absolutely electric atmosphere. I was lucky enough to catch a ride back to campus with the squad. Hearing the team sing and feeling the pure pride they had in knowing their energy directly impacted the football team's victory was a special moment, one they will remember long after the final score has faded.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to Armada Athletics. Go Armada!
