Chad Schildt joined the Atlantic Collegiate Academy staff for the 2025-26 school year, serving as a history teacher. He teaches U.S. History and Constitution, Government and Career Planning.
A native of Westminster, MD, Schildt was a baseball fan growing up, working to become a professional player. He was a three-sport standout in high school, earning All-Region honors as a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams at Francis Scott Key High. He was a three-time All-State selection in baseball and was a four-time Academic All-State pick.
Schildt went on to play college baseball for two seasons at Mount St. Mary's University, earning Freshman of the Week honors from the Northeast Conference twice. He was also selected to the Dean's List twice before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2006.
Schildt went on to earn a Teacher Leadership certification from the University of Phoenix in 2011 and a certification in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University in 2015.
"I wasn't always the best student in school," Schildt said. "I got good grades but I didn't think my teachers really got us. I really didn't think any of my teachers really cared about me when I was in school. I really thought there was a better way to teach and do things. I really enjoyed playing athletics and loved all my coaches. I thought that if you can teach the way my coaches coach, more students would like school.
"So, after I attempted to play some pro baseball, I decided to give teaching a chance. I love being around sports and coaching but wanted to teach as well. I believed in the way I coach could translate to the classroom. I was given a shot to be a co-teacher, then adult support, long-term sub and finally a classroom teacher.
"The most rewarding aspect of teaching and coaching lies in the ability to make a meaningful impact on my students and players. It is being able to help them not only succeed in their immediate goals but also shape who they become in the future. Ultimately, the meaningful impact you make doesn’t just change the lives of those you teach or coach, it also enriches your own life. Seeing them grow, succeed, and become confident individuals is the most fulfilling aspect of the work. It’s a reminder that teaching and coaching isn’t just a job; it’s a chance to shape the future, one person at a time."
Schildt began his teaching career at Carolina Forest High where he taught Global Studies, World History, World Geography and U.S. History from 2009 until 2018. During his time at CFHS he he was the Lead Mentor Teacher, served as Assistant Athletic Director, was a member of the Principals' Cabinet and was the school FCA leader. Schildt also served as the head softball coach and as an assistant coach for baseball and basketball.Â
He moved on to teach and coach at Deer Park Middle School in Charleston during the 2018-19 school year. He served as the schools' Athletic Director while launching both the girls basketball and baseball programs.
Following the year in Charleston, Schildt moved to Laurel, Miss., where he taught U.S. History, Mississippi History and College & Career Readiness classes at Laurel High. He served as the head of the school's FCA program and as a member of the Principals' Cabinet while also serving as the co-head coach of the baseball team.
Schildt returned to South Carolina in 2021 to teach U.S. History, Global Perspectives and Research and Human Geography at Battery Creek High in Beaufort. He served as Assistant AD, head baseball coach and co-offensive coordinator for the football program.Â
In 2024-25 Schildt served as a Social Studies teacher, Associate Dean of Students and Assistant Athletic Director at Mercer Middle School in Savannah, Ga.
During his career as an educator, Schildt has been nominated as Teacher of the Year four times. As a coach, he has helped to mentor more than 250 players who have gone on to play college or professional baseball. His teams have won four Region titles, three District crowns and were two-time Lower State runners up. He has produced three All-state players and two MLB draft selections.Â
"I have heard about how great things are at ACA, the way the administration allows the teachers to be innovative and involved in their content," Schildt said. "The amount of positive things the faculty says about the school and students, as well as the very common sense approach to education, I just loved everything I heard."
Schildt's wife, the former Nicole Fuquay, is a native of Varina, NC, and is a freelance writer in addition to being a stay-at-home mom for their six children - Hartley (19), Easton (11), Cayson (7), Layton (5), Hadey-Grace (2) and Cal (17 months).
