ATLANTIC COLLEGIATE ACADEMY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, Master's in Administration preferred.
- Prior Athletic Director Experience preferred.
- Fundraising Experience
- 5+ years of Coaching Experience
- AAU Experience
- Excellent Communication Skills
Job Purpose:
The Athletic Director's first duty is to ensure that high standards are maintained throughout the entire athletic program, and his foremost responsibility is to the student who is participating in athletics. The Athletic Director shall endeavor to provide each enrolled student of secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, provide a sense of worth and competence, and enhance the knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizes intra-personal relations to deal effectively with administration, teachers, community members, and schools.
- Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both intramural and interscholastic, for the school.
- Consults with the Director in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Arranges for officials, team physicians, and security as required; and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches when contests are such a distance from home as to make such arrangements necessary.
- Makes all necessary arrangements for the use of non-school playing fields and facilities.
- Coordinates the practice schedules for the coaches, with their input, on the fields and in the gymnasium; insures proper care and security at all times.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Monitors the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verifies each athlete's eligibility.
- Prepares for approval of Pinnacle the athletic program budget.
- Requisitions, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms, and equipment for athletic programs: supervises the cleaning, storage, and care for all athletic equipment.
- Keeps inventories of supplies and equipment up to date,
- Supervises all ticket sales and fundraising events of the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.
- Arranges all details of visiting teams' needs, including lodging, meals, towels, gymnasium services, and field assistance, as appropriate.
- Administers the insurance program covering school athletes and works with the school secretary for all processing of reports and claims.
- Supervises activities of all athletic staff.
- Provides for the physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each season.
- Prepares various records and forms such as maintenance reports, work orders, purchase orders, incident reports, etc.
- Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests, and maintains a record of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.
- Capable of operating a computer, copier, repair tools, calculator, video equipment, etc.
- Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.
- Represents the school at any athletic conference meeting in the absence of the Director.
- Coordinates concessions for all athletics events.
- Interacts with students, parents, coworkers, administrators, general public, etc.
- Keeps Principal abreast of any problems arising within Athletic Director's realm of responsibility.
- Performs other duties delegated to the athletic director by Pinnacle/Principal.
Essential Functions:
In addition to the physical and mental capabilities implied by the responsibilities detailed above, the essential functions of an Athletic Director include the following: reading, writing, hearing and speaking effectively, analyzing data, ability to lift or move items weighing 25 pounds, must hold a valid SC driver's license and be able to drive to school locations. The job of Athletic Director involves adapting to a changing educational environment and therefore, while accurate, is not exhaustive.
