Conway, SC - What an amazing year it has been for Armada Athletics. A year for the history books and one that laid a foundation for years of successes to come.
We saw a year full of "firsts" for ACA. First real home games and matches, the beginnings of rivalries and first championships. The list of accomplishments is extremely impressive. Before we get to those accomplishments on the fields and courts, I want to take a moment to highlight what the high school athletic experience is really driven by and that is academics.
For the 2024-25 school year, every single team at ACA had a 3.4 team GPA or higher! Volleyball finished the season with a team GPA of BETTER THANÂ 4.0! This speaks volumes to the type of young people we have at ACA and how they are committed to being well-rounded athletes! Both the Valedictorian (Zach Spencer) and Salutatorian for ACA (Reese Feldman) are athletes.Â
Now let's get to those list of accomplishments!Â
- 2 State Champions
- 2 State Champion Runners-Up
- 7 Regional Championships
- 1 State Player of The Year
- 9 All-State Players
- 5 Regional Players of The Year
- 4 Regional Coaches of The Year
- More than 60% of the senior class received some form of offer to play at the college level
- We had college commits representing NCAA DI, NCAA DII, NAIAÂ and the NJCAA.Â
For fall sports, volleyball won the region, made it to the lower state semi-finals, and both Ella Handley and Reese Feldmen were named to the North / South Game.
Football had three players named to the all-region team including Justin Bellamy, Juvi Livingston and Jack Garstka.
Tennis was a first year team and made the playoffs with standout Katie Godfree winning the state individual championship.
Girls' golf brought home the schools' first state trophy to Bear Bluff Road as they finished second in the state championship and had three players make all-state including state runner-up Hannah Lowery, Bella Stroupe and Clara Beth Brady.Â
Girls' basketball had a massive turnaround by making it all the way to the lower state semifinals before falling to eventual state champ Andrew Jackson. They had two major road playoff wins going to Timberland and Lake Marion - which had only one loss on the season - and coming away with victories.
Boys' basketball started and finished the season in the exact same position - #1 in the state at the 2A level. They beat High Point Academy in the state championship game in Florence in February, bringing state gold to "The Flight Deck" for the first time in a team sport. Jamie Brooks was named both Regional POY and to the All-State team.Â
Spring sports were busy across the board with all five teams making the SCHSL playoffs.
Boys' Golf had a Top 10 finish in the state with Sophomore Nick Tarbert also having a Top 10 showing to be named to the All-State team.
Softball came on strong midway through the season with two huge wins, including a victory over the eventual state champion East Clarendon. Overall, they finished second in the region with a seven game improvement over last season's record.
Baseball had a very solid second year, winning the Region 7AA crown. The Armada made it through playoff district play by winning the district championship before falling to region 7AA foe East Clarendon to wrap up the season. ACA played one of the strongest schedules at the 2A level in the state. Senior Justin Sheffield was named to the All-State team.
Both Boys' and Girls' Soccer won region championships, had regional players of the year in Mason Kendig and Eden Maxwell, and both made it to the lower state semifinals before dropping matches to eventual state champion Academic Magnet.Â
For the months of April and May, Junior Soccer standout Eden Maxwell and Sophomore Golf standout Nick Tarbert were named ACA Student-Athletes of The Month, respectively. Eden garnered the nod after a stellar month in which she led ACA Girls Soccer in nearly every statistical category. Nick earned the honor after a top 10 individual finish at the state championships that also ensured the team wrapped up the event in the top 10 as well.Â
Â
Dr. McKinley and Principal Lorenz presented Eden Maxwell with the Athlete of the Month award for April.
AD William Payne joined with Dr. McKinley and Principal Lorenz to present Nick Tarbert the Athlete of the Month award for May.
All of us at ACA are beyond proud of the amazing accomplishments of all of our student-athletes this year! You have truly built a foundation that will be built upon for years to come.Â
