Armada Cruises to Victory Over Lake City

Girls Come Up Just Short

Conway, SC – The Atlantic Collegiate Academy boys' basketball team continued its hot streak into the new year on Tuesday night, cruising past visiting Lake City 75-39 in a Region 7-AA contest.

For ACA (9-2) it was their sixth consecutive victory going back to mid-December. The Armada also improved to 2-1 in Region play. Lake City falls to 5-4 overall, 2-2 in Region play with the loss.

"This was a good team win," ACA coach Tanner Massey said. "We still have a long way to go to be the team we can become, but we're building consistency in certain areas that are necessary for us."

The Armada built a 10-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back, growing the advantage to 25 points, 35-10, by halftime. The advantage grew to 39 by the end of the third quarter before ACA coasted to the victory.

Sophomore guard Seeger Medalie led the Armada to the victory, scoring a season-high 17 points in the game thanks to connecting on five three-point baskets. Senior forward Jamie Brooks had a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Sophomore Brandon Johnson also chipped in with a season-high 10 points.

The Armada will continue in region competition on Friday night when they travel to play at Manning High. The Monarchs are 9-2 on the season after edging past Mullins last night 57-53. ACA will follow that game on Saturday afternoon with a non-region contest against Wilson High (9-6) in the Pee Dee Showcase in Florence.

Armada Girls Come Up Just Short

The ACA girls gave the top team in the region all they could handle but, in the end, the Panthers rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Armada 43-40.

ACA falls to 3-9 overall, 1-2 in region play with the loss while Lake City improved to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the region.

"We played the top team in the region well, battled for every inch on the court, and held their leading scorer in check," ACA coach Bill Zatulskis said. "This team is improving at both ends each and every game and they leave it all on the court."

ACA led the game 30-25 through three quarters with junior Micah Davis leading the way, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Lake City opened the final quarter with an 8-0 run, forcing the Armada to take a timeout. ACA quickly tied the game at 33 after the timeout, forcing the Panthers to call for a break.

The game went back and forth from there. ACA took a 37-35 lead on a four-point play, but Lake City answered to tie the score at 37 and then went up 39-37 with just a minute left on the clock. After consecutive ACA timeouts, Lake City scored back-to-back baskets, pushing the score to 43-37. The Armada got a late three-pointer to account for the final margin.

The Armada will look to bounce back on Friday when they face Manning (5-8, 1-1) in a game scheduled for 6:15 p.m.

JV Boys Roll to Victory

The opening game of the night saw the ACA junior varsity boys roll past Lake City 52-18 to improve to 6-1 on the season.

"It was a great overall team effort," JV coach Brandon Alston said. "We could have done a better job on offense, but we played great defense, and the rebounding was very good."

The junior varsity team will open play on Friday night at Manning with their game scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
