Armada Bounces Back With Dominant Performance

Conway, SC – The Atlantic Collegiate Academy boys' basketball team bounced back from a pair of two-point losses in the last week with a dominating performance in a victory over Clear Dot Charter on Wednesday night.

The Armada (4-2) jumped out to a commanding 20-point lead in the opening quarter and rolled to a 87-44 victory over the visiting Bats (1-2).

"We needed a game like this where everyone had the opportunity to play and contribute," Armada coach Tanner Massey said. "There are still many things to clean up, but we went into the game with an emphasis on playing with sound habits. It was about us."

After taking a big early lead, the Armada relaxed some in the second quarter, taking a 47-28 lead into halftime. The second half was all ACA as the Bats managed to score just five points in the third quarter and 16 total in the second half.

"We started out strong, but had a lull in the second quarter," Massey said. "I was very pleased with the way we played in the second half."

Senior guard Carter Davis led all scorers in the game with 16 points while senior forward CJ Hemingway added 12 and junior Jayden Bellamy scored 11. Senior Justin Bellamy and junior Brodie Miller led the Armada on the board with five rebounds each.

Prior to the varsity game, the ACA junior varsity improved to 4-1 with a 59-16 victory over the Bats. The Armada jumped out to a big early lead and never looked back, taking a 40-10 advantage into halftime.

"Our team had a great attitude and effort, and when we do that, everything else falls into place," JV coach Brandon Alston said.

Sophomore guard Rock Govan led ACA with 12 points in the game despite playing only limited minutes as the entire 16-player squad had a chance to play.

All three ACA squads, including the girls' team, will be in action on Friday night as the Armada hosts region rival Marion High. The JV game is set for a 5 p.m. start with the girls to follow at 6:15 p.m. The boys' varsity game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
