Armada Shuts Out Marion For First Region Victory

Marion, SC – The Atlantic Collegiate Academy football team turned in a dominant performance on both sides of the ball Friday night at Fox Field in a 27-0 victory over Marion High.

It was the first varsity victory in the short history for the Armada (1-4) as well as the first victory for the program is SCHSL Region 7-AA play. Marion fell to 1-6 on the year with the loss.

"It was a great first varsity victory in school history, a great first shutout and our first regional win," Armada head coach Antoine Rivens said.

The game was close early, with neither team able to find paydirt in the opening quarter. The Armada defense helped to set up the offense for three scores in the second quarter. Freshman Angelo Crescenzi was a standout on the defensive side of the ball with a pair of interceptions.

ACA was able to find the endzone early in the second quarter on an eight-yard touchdown run by junior Juvi Livingston. Senior Jackson Garksta added the PAT for a 7-0 Armada lead.

Atlantic was able to expand that lead by halftime thanks to a pair of Garksta field goals. He connected from 41 and 23 yards to send the Armada to the break with a 13-0 advantage.

The ACA lead grew to 20-0 in the third quarter when junior T.J. Wilson raced into the endzone for an 18-yard touchdown. Garksta's PAT made it 20-0 at that point.

The Armada defense continued to create havoc for the host Swamp Foxes. Senior captain Justin Bellamy led the way with four tackles, including a pair of sacks, while also breaking up and pass and forcing a fumble. Sophomore tackle Jeffrey Williams also had a big night with a sack among his six tackles.

Sophomore quarterback Brennan Moore closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter when he connected with freshman Tyler Yock for a 25-yard touchdown. Garksta's PAT accounted for the final point.

The Armada will be back in action in region play this Friday when they travel to Lake City to face the Panthers. Lake City is 2-5 so far on the year, but is coming off a 49-14 victory over Mullins last Friday.
