Dr. Charles Tarbert wanted to be a pilot when he was a child. Somewhere along the line, he turned toward saving lives, something he has been doing as a doctor of emergency medicine on the Grand Strand for more than 20 years.
Born in Crestline, Ohio, Tarbert attended Danville High in Danville, Ohio, where he played every sport that was available to him, but focused on the big three of football, basketball and baseball. Coming from a rural farming community, hunting and fishing were also high on the priorities list.
Following college, Tarbert enrolled at Northeast Ohio Medical University where he received his M.D. in emergency medicine in 2000. He relocated to South Carolina in 2003 to work at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He moved his practice to Conway Medical Center in 2011 and he serves there as the Medical Director of the ER.
In addition to his practice in emergency medicine, Tarbert has served as the Physician Medical Liaison for Horry County Schools since 2013. He is also a teaching professional, serving as an adjunct Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Campbell University School of Medicine as well as teaching clinical emergency medicine to medical students and residents at Conway Medical Center.
Tarbert and his wife, Sarah, a Nurse Practitioner from North Myrtle Beach, have five children. Their oldest, Lauren, is a student at Clemson studying education. Their second, Megan, is a senior at Carolina Forest High. Their middle child, Nicholas, will be a freshman this fall at ACA, and the two youngest, Lillian and Ella, are at Ocean Bay Middle School and Ocean Bay Elementary, respectively.
In addition to a busy family life with five active children, the Tarvers also have three dogs - Hyland, a Blue Heeler, and a pair of Great Danes named Samson and Athena.
