Damon Stephenson joined Pinnacle Charter Schools in 2002 and serves as the Director of Development for current and future Pinnacle schools.
Stephenson is a former assistant coach at several Division I college basketball programs including Winthrop University, High Point University, Gardner-Webb University, and the College of Charleston. At Winthrop, Stephenson was a member of four consecutive Big South Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Gregg Marshall from 1998-2002. He also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Georgetown College in Kentucky, where he helped guide the Tigers to a 66-5 overall record and a No. 1 national ranking.
In addition to his experience at the collegiate level, Damon also has tremendous international experience. As a managing partner of Elite Classic Basketball, he orchestrated High Stakes Hoops, a nationally-televised tournament in Australia that attracted professional talent from around the world. He was the Director of Marketing for Basketball New South Wales (BNSW) and was the head coach of the North Sydney U-18 D1 men’s team. After moving back to the States, he served as the Director of US Operations for Horizons Sporting Events, an Australian-based company.
Prior to his stint with BNSW, Stephenson served as the athletic director and head men’s basketball coach at Cape Fear Academy (CFA) in Wilmington, NC from 2004-06. During his tenure at CFA, they captured the 2005-06 EPIC Conference Championship, earning Stephenson the EPIC Conference Coach of the Year award.
Damon is a native of South Portsmouth, KY. He prepped at Greenup County High School, where he was a three-time All-16th Region selection and honorable mention All-State performer. He went on to play at Pikeville College (now the University of Pikeville), where he garnered a pair of NAIA Academic All-American honors and was a three-year captain. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in business administration in 1992.
Prior to joining the Pinnacle staff, Damon served as the head men’s basketball coach at St. Joseph Academy in St. Augustine, Fla. He and his wife, Natalie, have one son, Isaak, and reside in Rock Hill, SC.
