Armada Earns a Sweep at East Clarendon

Turbeville, SC – All three Atlantic Collegiate Academy basketball teams ventured onto the road on Tuesday night to take on East Clarendon in region 7-AA competition.

The Armada enjoyed a happy ride home after the games, having swept through the Wolverines.

The night started with the Junior Varsity boys taking 48-30 victory. The Armada girls followed with a hard-fought one-point victory, downing East Clarendon 45-44. The Varsity boys wrapped up the evening with a dominant performance in a 63-28 drubbing of the host team.

The ACA teams will be back in action at home on Friday night when they host Kingstree High at the Flight Deck. The JV boys are scheduled to play at 5 p.m. with the varsity girls to follow at 6:30 p.m. The varsity boys will close out the evening with the tip set for 8 p.m.

There will also be a Parent Forum for potential new students and parents on Friday night beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the school.

After the JV boys took care of business in the opening game of the night, the Armada girls' team (4-9) held off the Wolverines (2-8) in a hard-fought battle.

"It was a real physical game and the team showed resilience by pulling together with the game on the line," ACA coach Bill Zatulskis said.

After building a seven-point lead, 17-10, in the opening quarter, the Armada had to hold off East Clarendon the rest of the night. The Wolverines rallied to within three points, 21-18, by holding ACA to just four points in the second quarter. The ACA lead shrank to just one point, 35-34, by the end of the third quarter and the Armada held on from there.

Senior forward Hannah Goodman led ACA with 14 points while also grabbing four rebounds and dishing a pair of assists. Sophomore guard Zaniya Blackmon chipped in with 11 points while nabbing four steals and dealing out three assists.

In the boys' game, the Armada dominated the Wolverines (5-10) from the opening tip of the game. ACA improved to 10-3 overall, 3-1 in region play, by dominating the opening half of play. The Armada led the contest 18-2 after the opening quarter and pushed that lead to 37-5 by halftime.

"The focus from our players was there from the opening tipoff tonight," ACA coach Tanner Massey said. "They played with great effort."

The Armada coasted a little after halftime but were never threatened. ACA led 50-15 after three quarters and finished the game with that same 35-point lead.

Sophomore guard Majeah Lee led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Senior Jamie Brooks had eight points and nine rebounds while sophomore RJ Vereen grabbed seven board. Sophomore guard Seeger Medalie finished the night. With six points and six rebounds.
