Megan Steljes, originally from Connecticut, moved to South Carolina when she was a young girl and considers Horry County her home. She was a member of the Atlantic Collegiate Academy planning committee and was elected to serve as a member of the board for the 2023-24 academic year. She was recently reelected to serve an additional two years on the Atlantic Collegiate Academy school board.
Stejles graduated from Waccamaw High School in Pawleys Island in 2004 and went on to attend Francis Marion University in Florence, where she graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She was one of few new nursing graduates given an opportunity to begin her career in a Medical Intensive Care Unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center in North Carolina.
After mastering critical care nursing for almost three years, she went back to further her education and received a Master’s degree in Nursing in 2011 from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington. She holds a national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and has spent the last 13 years taking care of Hematology and Oncology patients at Coastal Cancer Center, a community cancer center. She is truly humbled to be able to aid in the health of members of the very community she grew up in.
She could not imagine doing anything else professionally. As a nurse practitioner, she wears many hats. Not only does she diagnose and treat illnesses but a huge part of her day is spent educating patients and their families to give them the skills needed to live healthier lives.
Megan and her husband, Jordan Steljes, have three children: Jordan (15), Lillian (7), and Alexander (2). To say life is busy and always eventful, is an understatement. With her free time, Megan enjoys being with her family and loves to travel and visit the beach.
As a mother of a biracial child, Megan is also passionate about diversity awareness, equity, and inclusion in the community. She understands the importance of ensuring opportunities to identify differences and learn to use those differences as strengths to better ourselves and our community. She has an interest in providing students and adults in the community with opportunities that highlight the importance of the diversity and inclusiveness.
Steljes has been captivated by the idea of the opening of Atlantic Collegiate Academy since the day she found out about the school. After hearing about the school’s mission, she knew she wanted to be a part of bringing this educational opportunity to the children in our community. She participated in the original planning committee and is honored to be part of the board of directors. She is thrilled her son will be attending his second year at ACA as a sophomore and will be given the continued opportunity to learn and grow in a school where opportunities seem endless.
In addition to their three children, the Steljes family includes two dogs, Ginger and Buddy Bones, and two cats, Audrielle and Rosie Belle.
