Cathy Koontz comes to ACA from Myrtle Beach Middle School where she has served as the office manager for the past three years. She will serve as the school’s executive administrative assistant.
"I am excited to be a part of the ACA team,” Koontz said. “We will be busy this summer getting the office and school ready for the teachers and students to arrive in August. Atlantic Collegiate Academy is the first of its kind in the Myrtle Beach area and I only wish this kind of school had been available when my kids went to high school.
"I hope the students and their parents feel comfortable stopping by the office this summer if they have any questions or would just like to visit."
A native of Charleston, WV, Koontz moved to the Grand Strand in 2020 to be near her son, Zack, who is a real estate appraiser in the Myrtle Beach area. Her younger son, Jacob, was a two-time Horry County champion in Cross Country at North Myrtle Beach High.
“We are so blessed to have Cathy Koontz as our administrative assistant at Atlantic Collegiate Academy,” principal Mike Lorenz said. “She has tremendous experience working in schools in administrative roles and she will do a great job helping to make ACA run smoothly for all of our students and staff.”
Before moving to the Myrtle Beach area, Koontz had spent her entire life in West Virginia. She attended Charleston High School before earning an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from West Virginia State College. She spent 10 years as a legal assistant at a Charleston law firm before becoming an assistant to the principal at Nitro Elementary School, just outside Charleston.
A huge fan of WVU football and basketball, Koontz has adopted Coastal Carolina athletics since moving to the Myrtle Beach area. She also enjoys spending time at the beach and reading.
