Dennis Smith joined the Atlantic Collegiate Academy baseball program as an assistant coach for the inaugural season in 2024.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was raised by his grandfather in Shallote, NC, where he attended West Brunswick High, competing in the sports of baseball, basketball and handball while also spending time surfing.
After high school, Smith attended UNC Wilmington for three years, playing baseball, before leaving college to surf professionally in Australia, which he did for two years. Following his return to the U.S., he entered the work force. During his career he has owned a Pizzaria in Wilmington, NC, owned a waterproofing company in Florida and, currently, works as a corporate trainer for Cracker Barrel in North Myrtle Beach.
When he learned about Atlantic Collegiate Academy, the desire to coach was reignited in him because he has always enjoyed teaching youngsters to be good players and better people. He always enjoys experiencing the satisfaction of giving kids the same kinds of chances he was given by his coaches.
Smith is married to Donna Smith, a native of Tom's River, NJ, who is a Vice-President for PNC Bank. He also has a grown daughter, Skylar, who he mostly raised as a single father. The Smith's have three shitzuas, Sophia, Nikko and Gianna.
