What is Edmentum?
Edmentum is an online course for students who have a teacher of record on our campus.
Why do we use Edmentum?
We use Edmentum for several reasons.
-
we use it for students who need to take a high school course because they do not qualify for a dual enrollment course
-
we use it for our CTE courses so that our students can graduate with a South Carolina completer certification in general business
-
we use it for our PE class
-
we use it for transfer students who need to take a course in order to stay on track with our pupil progression plan
-
we use it for students to retake a course they failed (for example, if they fail DE English 101, they would be enrolled in Edmentum English III, etc)
What is ExactPath and why do we use it?
ExactPath is an Edmentum program assigned to all students in high school courses in order to give them support in mastering the skills needed to be successful in Math, Reading and Language Arts. We use it as a supplemental program to give every student the best opportunity to be successful in the academic rigor of ACA.
What should my student do in ExactPath?
Once your student has completed the initial benchmark exam in each of the three support areas, they will be given custom skill builder activities they will be required to complete. Their Science and Social Studies teachers will grant time to work on these skills, and their Math and ELA teachers will record their completion of these skill builder activities as grades for their class.
Who is responsible for Edmentum courses?
Students! It is the student’s responsibility to log in daily and work through their course material according to the Pacing Guide (Located within each courses’ material)
How can I support my student in their Edmentum Courses and ExactPath Skill Building Activities?
-
Accept the Family Sensi invite (an email from the program was sent on January 16, 2024 to all ACA families)
-
Create your account and long in regularly to check your student’s progress
-
Check in your with your student to make sure they are completing the material
-
Direct your student to their teacher of record for support and help as needed
-
Hold your student accountable for completing this material as you would for any in-person course
-
Check your email regularly for teacher communication. You will be sent an automated report form each of your students’ classes either weekly or bi-weekly throughout the semester
What can my student do if they fail an assignment in their Edmentum Course?
-
If your student fails a Mastery test, they can go back through the tutorial to unlock the test and retake it as many times as they wish
-
Unit Activities, Unit Tests, and Discussions cannot be retaken.
How should my student pace themselves in their Edmentum courses?
We recommend the following:
-
Review the pacing guide and log all due dates in their personal planner
-
Open up each unit activity at the start of every unit and review the requirements to complete the assignment then plan accordingly to have it completed on time
-
These cannot be done in one day. They often have multiple steps and take longer to complete than a mastery test.
Should my students work on their Edmentum and ExactPath assignments daily?
YES!! This is just like any in-person course. Students should expect to spend 53 minutes in each Edmentum course daily in order to complete the course on time.
What happens if my student fails their Edmentum course?
Failure of any of our Edmentum courses puts your student at risk of not graduating on time. In the event of a course failure students should:
-
Immediately set up a meeting with our Guidance Counselor, Dr. Lori Malkasian (lmalkasian@acaarmada.org) to review their pupil progression plan and make arrangements for either summer school through Virtual SC or retake the course during the following term if their scheduling allows for an additional course.
-
Should a student fail a core course (English III or IV, Algebra III, etc) they will not be allowed to move into the next level until they complete the course again. In most cases this will require your student to make up that course over the summer via VirtualSC as ACA does not offer a summer school program.
Who should I reach out to if I have questions?
We have an on-campus coordinator, Ryan David (rdavid@acaarmada.org), who is responsible for working with our guidance counselor, Dr. Lori Malkasian (lmalkasian@acaarmada.org) to make sure students are placed in the appropriate courses every semester so that they stay on track to graduate. Any questions you have about this program should be directed to Mr. David.
